‘We have 8 designers in our department. I am their manager and distribute the workload among the team and oversee the design process. We always develop new products. These are mainly dynamic cable systems for subsea applications, on the basis of client specifications. In addition to this, our designers are involved with the implementation of new technologies and techniques. We are responsible for the design, but also for the feasibility and we, therefore, have a coordinating role in the manufacturing process.’

What makes your work so enjoyable?
‘The cable systems we create are complex. Various disciplines meet in this kind of system: materials science, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and process engineering. And all this in the extraordinarily complex geometry of the helix. DeRegt develops the terminations in-house as well. These can be extremely complex products. Most of the products are subsequently also used in very extreme environments, which makes it even more challenging. No two days are alike. One moment you will be discussing product specifications with the client, the next moment you will be designing a test machine or overseeing the manufacturing process at our 10,000m² plant.’

Is there life beyond DeRegt?
‘In my spare time, I like to play the guitar and record music. I call it pretension-free rocking out. I also like to play chess, read books and watch boxsets and films. I have a daughter and my wife Mika is the frontwoman of the (almost) world-famous band Mika Bomb.’
